Minnesota Oncology Social Work Telehealth Patient FAQs
We’ve launched a new program that allows our practice to utilize technology to better serve our patients. Through our program Caring Face-2-Face Sponsored by Minnesota Oncology, patients and social workers can connect ‘face-to-face’ to discuss:
- Assessment, Planning and Referrals: includes transportation, homemaking and home care services, Meals on Wheels, wig and hair loss resources, medical equipment, housing issues such as assisted living or nursing home care, palliative care and hospice, and healthcare directives
- Financial Concerns: includes help applying for Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI), and financial grants for meeting non-medical living expenses during treatment
- Emotional Support and Education: includes information on American Cancer Society (ACS) services, support groups, upcoming events and classes, referrals to oncology therapists, family counseling, advocacy efforts and help with communication and coping issues

Why is Minnesota Oncology launching this program?
By utilizing technology in this way, we hope to eliminate the inconvenience of you having to travel to meet with your social worker and provide a more efficient way for our social workers to assist more patients like you.
What does ‘Telehealth’ mean?
For us, ‘Telehealth’ means enabling you to use a video chat application (App) – at your normal site of care – to connect you with a social worker who is based in one of our 10 other practice locations. The technology is setup and operated by our team, all you need to do is come in for an appointment like you normally would and we’ll handle the rest!
Where will ‘Telehealth’ visits take place?
Your appointment will be held in an exam room at the Minnesota Oncology Minneapolis clinic. The Social Worker will be at another Minnesota Oncology clinic location and talk with you via the video chat App.
What if I’m not very techy savvy?
The technology we utilize for telehealth visits is already setup in our practice and we will have staff on-hand to assist you should a glitch arise. This means no prior knowledge is required for you to have a successful and convenient visit with your social worker.
Will my insurance cover this visit?
Minnesota Oncology will bill for services as we have in the past. We will work with both you and your insurance company to determine coverage when the need arises.
