MAPLEWOOD, MN (August 2017) – Minnesota Oncology is pleased to announce that Ryan Funk, M.D. recently joined our Radiation Oncology team. Dr. Funk will treat patients at our St. Paul Cancer Center and Maplewood Cancer Center.
Dr. Funk is an honors graduate from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT who received his medical degree from Washington University in Saint Louis, MO. He completed his transitional residency at Mercy Medical Center in Saint Louis, MO and his residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medical Education in Rochester, Minn.
Dr. Funk has co-authored many published scholarly articles in journals such as Head and Neck, Rare Tumors, Radiation Oncology and Blood and was first author for a book chapter in Clinical Cardio-Oncology. His research interests include HPV-positive head and neck cancer, prostate brachytherapy, coronary effects of radiation therapy, rare cancers, and prognostic factors after stereotactic radiosurgery for aggressive meningiomas, among other topics. He has also given oral and poster presentations at the American Society for Radiation Oncologists, American Brachytherapy Society and American Society for Hematology’s annual meetings.
"I am incredibly grateful for the amazing people I am privileged to treat," Dr. Funk said. "My goal is to counsel patients about their disease and treatment options so we can partner together to develop a personalized treatment plan based on unique patient needs and evidence-based medicine."
Dr. Funk has been a volunteer Boy Scout Cub Master and Scout Master for many years, and he spent two years in Philippines doing missionary work.
