This year’s Hope in Motion, the signature annual event for Minnesota Oncology, raised more than $50,000 for Angel Foundation, a Minnesota nonprofit that provides adults in active cancer treatment and their families with financial assistance to pay for non-medical expenses such as rent, mortgage, food, fuel, and utilities. Angel Foundation also provides education and support for families with children who are facing a parental or caregiver cancer diagnosis. Over the last four years, Hope in Motion has raised approximately $150,000 for Angel Foundation.

“What a rewarding experience to be a part of Hope in Motion. Not only does this event raise significant funds for Angel Foundation, it is also so powerful to be surrounded by such hope and passion for supporting each other,” said Andrew Rosen, President of Angel Foundation. “We are incredibly grateful to Minnesota Oncology for helping make life a little easier for Minnesota families struggling with cancer.”

Many of the participants were Minnesota Oncology patients in recovery who had been training their bodies for the race. Live music was provided by Minnesota Oncology nurse and breast cancer survivor Yana Reko.

Sunday Burquest, a Minnesota Oncology patient, breast cancer survivor, and recent contestant on CBS’s Survivor, gave an inspirational speech at the event.

“When you’re dealing with cancer, life is a roller coaster ride. You experience moments of deep despair and also moments of breathtaking optimism,” said Burquest. “Hope in Motion is a special event because it brings survivors together with loved ones to celebrate hope – regardless of where they’re at in their cancer journey.
